Flashing directs water away from some of the most vulnerable roof transitions. When it is loose, corroded, poorly sealed or incorrectly installed, leaks can develop around walls, chimneys, vents and other penetrations.
Where flashing is used
Common locations include chimneys, roof-to-wall intersections, valleys, vents, skylights and other penetrations through the roof covering.
Sealant is not always the fix
Caulking can be useful in the right detail, but repeatedly applying sealant over failed flashing can hide rather than solve the underlying problem.
Repair the transition
A durable repair addresses how water moves across and around the detail, then restores the roofing materials around it.
